Start: Jiřího náměstí , Poděbrady (main square)
Finish: Palackého Namesti, Kutna Hora (main square)
This stage has some rough natural parts. If you wish a smooth ride, then the Direct Variant is for you.
Today you will start riding along the Elbe river on cycling path 2. The first path is very smooth but later on it becomes a natural rough trail. If you wish to ride smooth (but a bit more boring), in the village of Velky Osek just follow the Eurovelo cycling path all the way to Kolin where you will rejoin the regular route (MAPA). The town of Kolin, will welcome you after 20 km. We recommend taking a look at the impressive Gothic cathedral, Saint Bartholomew.
After a coffee or a hearty lunch or a beer you will leave town (be careful, some sections have a bit of traffic), and soon enter a very nice valley made by the small river Polepka, famous for the many mills and nice landscape. Although this route is marked as cycling path, the riding here is once again rough with even some sections that need pushing. Once on the other side, at Ratboř village you can quickly check the two chateaux (the new one, now a boutique Hotel, was designed by the famous Czech architect Jan Kotěra and was built in 1911-1913 in Neoclassical mansion) before rolling over the hills that will take you all the way to Kutna Hora. Before riding down the last one, which will take you to the bone cathedral, check out Havirska Bouda, the lookout tower above Kutna Hora.
Tired, injured, bad weather, not enough time? Here a quick tool to shorten the stages with trains in case of need.
